Overall Geography
The Dominican Republic is located in the Caribbean sea on the island of Hispaniola. Hispaniola is an island that is made up of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The eastern two thirds is the Dominican Republic and the western third is Haiti.
Climate
The Dominican Republic is not a very large country, so the climate around the country is around the same. It experiences a tropical climate, and has very little seasonal changes. Most of the rainfall occurs in the Northern part of the Dominican Republic, where they receive around 2,500 mm of rainfall per year. But, in the far western parts of this country, it is very dry and receives as little rainfall of 760 mm per year.
Land
The Dominican Republic has an area of 48,670 km squared where 48,320 km squared of it is land, and 350 km squared is water. 51.5% of the Dominican Republic is agricultural land, and in that 51.5% it includes arable land, permanent crops and permanent pasture land. 40.8% of the country is made up of forests, and the last 7.7% of land is other types of land. The highest point of elevation from sea level is 3,098 meters, and the lowest point is -46m. Santo Domingo, the country's capital, has an elevation of 46 meters. All of these factors make the Dominican Republic a unique place to see.
